AUTHOR INFORMATION

AUTHOR INFORMATION

I have three primary professional affiliations:

  • The RIDHWAN SCHOOL, where I have been student of A. H. Almaas since 1975 and an ordained teacher of the Diamond Approach since 1983. I lead groups in Vancouver BC, Seattle, and Colorado, and I work with individual Diamond Approach students. I also wrote an introductory overview of this work, The Diamond Approach: An Introduction to the Teachings of A. H. Almaas (Shambhala Publications).

  • NAROPA UNIVERSITY, where I am a professor and director of the low-residency MA in Transpersonal Psychology. There, I teach transpersonal psychology, ecopsychology, and wilderness therapy. I have been connected to Naropa off and on since 1974 as a student, teacher, and administrator. I was chair of the Transpersonal Counseling Psychology Department at Naropa from 1994 to 1996. I have also taught research methods courses at Naropa. Prior to joining the Naropa faculty, I taught for 21 years at Metropolitan State College of Denver, where I was given teaching excellence awards twice. My B.A. degree in Psychology is from Wake Forest University (1972), and my Ph.D. degree in Experimental Psychology is from the University of Colorado (1977).

  • The SCHOOL OF LOST BORDERS, where I lead wilderness vision fasts and other wilderness-based retreats and train guides. Founded by Steven Foster and Meredith Little over 30 years ago, the School is a leading training facility for wilderness rites of passage guides. The School has also been influential in bringing ecopsychology forward. I have also been involved in developing and leading rites of passage programs for youth and for similar programs in other settings.
I live with my wife and younger son in a small semi-rural cohousing community near Boulder, Colorado. My older son and his wife live in Washington, D.C., and my daughter lives in Texas.
